Is It The End Of The Hero's Journey?

If you’re not already familiar with the term, ‘The Hero’s Journey’ that was coined in 1949 by author, mythologist Joseph Campbell… you’ve most likely felt the effects.

‘The Hero's Journey’ plays out in classic adventure tales, movies, books and in our own real lives. It goes something like this:

  • An ordinary individual goes alone on an extraordinary quest,

  • They face many challenges and obstacles.

  • They discover their inner strengths and weaknesses along the way.

  • Eventually this ordinary person transforms into a hero.

  • They return home, bringing newfound wisdom and gifts to their community.

It reflects the essence of human experience, growth, and triumph in the face of adversity.

If you’re beyond the age of 30, you’ve no doubt experienced the Hero’s Journey in your own life. I know I have, more than I wish to admit.

And, it’s exhausting!

In this post ‘Lean In’, ‘Post Pandemic’ Era our heroes are tired.

Everyday I hear from my clients that they’re lonely.

They are overwhelmed.

They feel isolated.

Now’s the time for a new approach to life!

An approach that’s not only effective in achieving our goals…

But sustainable.

I’m done with white knuckling it until I crash and burn… only to repeat the cycle again.

Today’s leaders want to live and lead to their highest capacity.

And, they’re no longer willing to lose their health and their relationships in the process.

When we trade

Rugged Individualism for Collaboration,

Indifference for Empathy,

Guarded for Vulnerability,

Siloed for Connection…

We will create resilient leaders

Who can go further, for longer.

This new approach to life is not only effective ... .It's sustainable.

I’m ready to say goodbye to the Hero’s Journey.

Now is the time for the exhausted hero to reclaim her calendar, conquer her busyness and do her best work without sacrificing herself in the process. _

In two weeks, I’ll be presenting a live workshop, for high achieving women who are tired of being tired and feeling like a failure.
